An application for a Certificate of Admission should be made to the Admissions Officer.

Hard copies of the following documents must accompany your application:

1. Completed application form
2. A certified copy of your original certificate(s) evidencing your professional qualification(s).
3. A certified copy of your original certificate(s) evidencing your higher education academic qualification(s).
4. An original certificate of good standing from your professional body in the jurisdiction you have been admitted. The Law Society of Ireland must receive this certificate within three months after its date of issue.
5. Original references from three referees. See below for specific criteria for these references and referees.
6. Your sworn Affidavit of Solvency in the prescribed form for a solicitor who is admitted in Northern Ireland, England or Wales.
7. Photographic I.D. (e.g. certified copy of passport)
8. Fee of €560 to be paid by EFT

Provided your application is complete and in order, it will be put before the President of the High Court for authorisation. On approval, you will be advised of your date of admission to the Roll of Solicitors and your solicitor number. Your Certificate of Admission will issue thereafter.

This process will take approximately eight weeks. However, if any part of your application is incomplete, this will delay your application. If you make a disclosure as part of your application, it may be necessary to apply to the Law Society's Education Committee for consideration of your application. Please see below for further details.

As part of your application for admission, you must provide original references from three separate referees. They must meet the following criteria:

• Two of your referees must be practising solicitors of at least five years standing either in the Republic of Ireland or in the jurisdiction where you are already qualified.
• All referees must have known you well for two years or more.
• If you are currently in employment, one of the referees must be from your current firm (even if you have been with the firm for less than two years).
• How the foregoing criteria is met should be clearly set out in the references.

If you make a disclosure or any other matters arise on your application, it may be necessary to apply to the Law Society’s Education Committee for consideration of your application. This will incur an additional fee of €115.

The Education Committee meets approximately eight times a year. Late applications will be deferred to the next meeting of the Education Committee.
