Aim and objectives
This lunchtime webinar will discuss tips for practitioners taking instructions and writing wills arising from recent contentious and non-contentious probate cases. Speakers are experts in the field.

    Catherine Duggan BL
    Catherine Duggan BL practices as a Barrister specialising in probate and trust law and has extensive litigation experience in these areas. She has lectured on probate and trusts to various bodies over the years including for the STEP Diploma and has spoken at various seminars organised by STEP and by Solicitors associations around the country. She is a founding member and Chair of the Probate Bar Association of Ireland and a former Chair of the Society of Trusts and Estate Practitioners (STEP).

    Karl Dowling, BL
    Karl is a Barrister with a specialist practice in (i) Wills; (ii) Succession Law; (iii) Probate Litigation; (iv) Trusts; (v) Charities; (vi) Equity; and (vii) Cross-Border Estates. He has advised the Attorney General’s Office on issues of Charities, Trusts and Estates and has assisted the Law Reform Commission in relation to (i) safeguarding vulnerable adults and (ii) section 117 Succession Act 1965. Karl is Vice Chair of the Probate Bar Association of Ireland and past Committee Member of STEP Ireland. He widely lectured on various probate issues to the Law Society, STEP Annual Conferences, the DSBA and a number of countrywide Solicitors’ Bar Associations and has written extensively for Thomson Reuters and amongst other titles, is the author of ‘Practical Probate’ and ‘Civil Procedure in the Circuit Court’.

    Michael Hourican, SC
    Michael was called to the Bar in Michaelmas 1997 and called to the Inner Bar in Michaelmas 2022.  He specialises in Probate and Succession Law, Property and Conveyancing and Equity and Trusts.  He is a committee member of the Probate Bar Association and is a regular speaker at probate bar events and contributor to the Bar Review and other publications.
