Bricks vs clicks as retailers fight online onslaught

The retail sector is facing immense challenges, a Maples and Calder property seminar heard in Dublin this week.

Alex McCulloch of CACI Consulting said that the consumer and retail landscapes are going through an unprecedented structural upheaval which the political and economic backdrop make all the more challenging.

The Bricks vs Clicks property seminar heard that just fifty per cent of Irish shoppers purchase online, as opposed to 80 per cent in Britain.

Migration

This migration to online shopping presents huge challenges to bricks-and-mortar outlets, the attendees heard.

The stronger retail landscape in Ireland throws up opportunities but the retail offering must be strongly innovative to survive the current climate, the seminar heard.
