Legal onus to register lease agreements within 30 days

Lease agreements must be registered online within 30 days of stamp certificate receipt from the Revenue Commissioners, the public is being told by a new Property Services Regulatory Authority (PRSA) awareness campaign.

Transparency

The move is part of a push for greater transparency on the price of leases. The PRSA believes that accurate online information will ensure a level playing field for prospective tenants.

The PSRA website holds full details on all farming, commercial and retail leases. A total of 8,300 of leases have been registered since 2012.

Some farming groups are concerned, however, that their members will be easily identified if townlands are listed in the documents, despite the absence of personal information, such as given names in the online forms.
