New Circuit Court judge is appointed

Barrister Martina Baxter BA, LL.B, will make her declaration as a Judge of the Circuit Court before the Supreme Court on Wednesday 4 October 2017 at 4.30 pm.

The new judge was educated at National University of Ireland, Galway and the King’s Inns. She was called to the bar in 1992 and has been involved in criminal practice at the Four Courts, covering all areas including conviction and sentence appeals, High Court bail applications as well as judicial review and human rights law. 

Retirement

The move follows the retirement of Judge John O’Hagan in August. Nominations to the Circuit Court follow the receipt of lists of suitable candidates from the Judicial Appointments Advisory Board.

Martina Baxter was also a part-time lecturer in law at the Dublin Institute of Technology (1993-2002).
