Diploma in International Financial Services Law

Law Society Professional Training kicks off 2019 with a collaboration between the UCD Sutherland School of Law and Finuas Skillnet offering a post-graduate Diploma in International Financial Services Law.

This is on level nine on the National Framework of Qualifications and is the first step on the path to an LLM.

Blended learning

Operated on a blended learning model, the course begins on 11 January at Blackhall Place.

Offering 30 credits, the diploma will focus on law and market practice in the provision of international financial services, which is a key component of the Irish economy.

Strategy

As the financial services sector is part of the government’s economic strategy Blackhall Place applied for funding from Skillnet Ireland to run this Diploma and looked to UCD as a partner because of their excellent reputation in financial services.

The first time this course ran was in 2010 when it was envisioned that it would increase the expertise of Irish financial services legal and taxation firms to an international standard and thereby enhance the global competitiveness of member firms competing in the arena.

The Diploma in International Financial Services Law is designed for legal and other professionals working in the international financial services sector or those wishing to embark on a career in this area.

Practical

This programme will be highly practical, with an expert panel of speakers boasting wide experience in the field.

Course content includes fiduciary duties in financial transactions, financial transactions and the conflict of laws, and legal issues in the provision of financial collateral.

Semester

Lecture times are 6-8pm on Fridays, and the second semester begins on Friday 12 April.

A legal qualification is not essential to take the course. For more information, ring (01) 881 5727 or email finuasskillnet@lawsociety.ie
