Huge turnout at requiem Mass for late Moya Quinlan
The tricolour flew at half-mast at Blackhall Place today (pictured above) as a mark of respect for the late Moya Quinlan, former Law Society president.
And a massive congregation turned out to pay last respects to the ‘beloved icon’ of the Law Society at her funeral Mass this morning.
The requiem Mass was celebrated at St Patrick’s Church in Monkstown, Co Dublin at ten o'clock.
Those attending heard warm tributes to the first woman president of the Law Society of Ireland (1980/81) and her remarkable life of service to the law and to Irish society.
Traditional hymns
Traditional and well-loved hymns such as Abide With Me, Ag Críost An Síol, The Bells of the Angelus, Hail Glorious St Patrick and Pie Jesu were sung by the congregation.
Readings from the Book of Ecclesiastes (3,1-8) and the first letter of St. Paul to the Thessalonians (4,13) were given by Ken Murphy and Mary Keane, director general and deputy director general of the Law Society respectively.
Law Society President Patrick Dorgan read one of the prayers of the faithful, along with Quinlan family members mourning their beloved mother and grandmother.
Moya’s son Michael Quinlan paid a warm and emotional tribute to his late mother. Michael was the 2017/18 President of the Law Society, and the duo were the first mother-son combination to hold the office.
99th year
Moya Quinlan died peacefully in her 99th year in the care of the Glengara Park Nursing Home, Glenageary, Co Dublin on Tuesday 12 February.
She was the beloved wife of the late Michael and mother of both Michael and Brendan.
She is sadly missed by her sons, daughter-in-law Sarah, grandchildren Emma, Michael, David, Pippa Kate, Daniel and Julieanne, great-grandsons Reg and Eric, extended family and a very wide circle of colleagues and friends.
