McCann FitzGerald scoops award for unsalaried work

McCann FitzGerald has been named as the best national firm for pro bono work at the Legal Media Group Europe Women in Business Law Awards 2019. The awards ceremony took place at The Savoy, London, on 13 June.

The award celebrates the firm’s pro bono activities that focus on women and diversity.

During the past year, McCann FitzGerald has:

  • Partnered with Women’s Aid to provide a legal advice clinic to support women experiencing domestic violence in certain legal proceedings,
  • Assisted Action Aid with a legislative mapping exercise as part of its global campaign on ‘women’s labour, decent work and public services’,
  • Commenced a secondment project for trainees with the Community Law and Mediation Centre, Coolock.

Accessible

Managing partner Barry Devereux said: “We are keenly committed to making legal services more accessible for those who require them, and have a keen interest in supporting projects that can have a positive impact on the communities where we work.”

The firm awards recognise the best initiatives for gender diversity, innovation, minority women, mentoring, work-life balance, pro bono work, and talent management.

Aviation partner

Last year, aviation partner Catherine Deane won the ‘best in aviation’ award for the second year running, while Deirdre Barnicle (head of McCann FitzGerald’s tax compliance services) group received a ‘rising star’ award.
