Women’s Aid launches new domestic abuse capture app

A new app has been developed that allows domestic abuse victims to capture evidence of crimes committed. The Bright Sky app was launched today by Women’s Aid, the Vodafone Ireland Foundation and the Gardaí.

According to Women’s Aid, 20% of Irish women will experience domestic abuse during their lives. The hope is that this app will help increase the number of prosecutions in this area. 

Important innovation

The charity’s chief executive Sarah Benson says: “This app is an important innovation. It provides a range of supports for those who may be experiencing domestic abuse and domestic violence.”

Of particular importance is the innovation which allows a victim of domestic abuse, in particular a victim of the new crime ‘coercive control’, to record their experiences in a safe and secure way.

The app is available to download on Google Play and at the Apple App Store.
