Law firm backs  librarian excellence award

A County Wicklow woman has received a prestigious librarianship award, sponsored by law firm Allen and Overy.

Geraldine Colgan from Ballyduff, Ashford, is one of two recipients honoured for getting the highest marks on the Ulster University Library and Information Management Postgraduate Diploma.

Studies

The popular course enhances the skills of information professionals, and is delivered online to help to fit studies around working lives.

Geraldine currently works with the public library service in Wicklow County Council.

The award is sponsored by international law firm Allen & Overy in collaboration with Ulster University and the Chartered Institute for Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) who accredit the course.

Initiative

Allen & Overy said that it was proud to support the initiative, adding: “We continue to encourage talented people to join our profession. Exceptional library and information managers are of great importance to organisations such as Allen & Overy.”

Award winner Geraldine Colgan said: ““The librarian’s skillset must constantly evolve to keep up with the demands of this dynamic environment,” she said.
