Hangovers are an illness, Frankfurt court rules
A German court has ruled that hangovers are an illness after plaintiffs brought a mis-selling action against a firm selling ‘anti-hangover shots’ and drink powders.
The Frankfurt Superior Regional Court ruled yesterday that “information about a food product cannot ascribe any properties for preventing, treating or healing a human illness or give the impression of such a property”.
Nausea
The definition of illness includes bodily disruptions such tiredness, nausea and headaches, the ruling said.
In February, scientists in both Germany and Britain found that the order in which drink is consumed has no discernible effect on a hangover’s severity.
The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition report showed no impact on “hangover intensity” by how drinks are lined up on a night out.
