In November 2018, the Law Society Gazette made a great leap forward with the launch of its new narrated journalism service.

In collaboration with our service partner, News Over Audio (NOA), Gazette readers are able to stay informed by listening to narrated content ‘on the go’.

This service is ideal for information-hungry but time-poor Gazette readers.

Law Society members and Gazette subscribers can listen to the magazine’s main features being narrated by professional readers, by clicking on the ‘listen to this article’ logo on relevant articles.

Just uploaded this month is lawyer Rory O’Boyle’s personal account of his traumatic diagnosis with HIV.

We also have an article on the complicated issue of ensuring a child’s voice is heard in legal proceedings.

The new legal services’ complaints and disciplinary system is a topic of great interest to practitioners, and Gazette subscribers can listen to this month’s update on the key changes.

Barrister Anne Conlon this month examines the debate about constitutional protection for women’s life in the home, while MH&C’s Alice Murphy and Emma Lawrence consider which factors elevate charity governance from the ‘merely good’ to the ‘great’.

NOA chief executive Gareth Hickey says: “The idea was initially floated in February 2018 when speaking with a corporate law firm in Dublin.  They indicated that the Gazette is widely read by practising solicitors and sits on every fee-earner’s desk.

“Separately, the Gazette editor Mark McDermott was looking for a narrated journalism solution, came across us and put in a call. The conversation went from there.”

The Gazette is the first industry specific publication to be made globally available on the NOA app, and will eventually have between ten to 15 articles narrated from the Gazette each month.
