Purple haze – Blackhall Place to light up in support of those with disability

The beautiful Blackhall Place Law Society HQ will be lit up in colour for International Day of Persons with Disabilities which falls on 3 December.

Blackhall Place will join other landmark buildings to be flooded in purple lights in a salute to the 643,131 people in Ireland who live with a disability.

#PurpleLightUp is a global movement designed to draw attention to the economic empowerment of disabled people.

The Disability Federation of Ireland is chaired by solicitor Gary Lee, who has also recently been elected to the Law Society Council.

Gary is a practicing solicitor with particular expertise in disability law and mental health and capacity law. He is also a member of the Law Society Human Rights Committee.

The l3 December light-up will be shared on social media using the hashtags #IDPwD #PurpleLights. The public is asked to show its support for those living with disability by sharing snaps taken with the illuminated buildings as background.

Photos can also be taken at other locations and turned purple using a smartphone filter from the ‘photo edit’ button.

In 2018, Irish Rail lit up Heuston and Connolly Stations in Dublin, Trinity College and Bank of Ireland turned purple on College Green and Liberty Hall did the honours on the north side of the Liffey
