The Law Society’s headquarters at Blackhall Place was lit up in purple yesterday to mark the UN’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities (3 December).

“When we secure the rights of people with disabilities, we move closer to achieving the central promise of the 2030 agenda – to leave no one behind,” says UN Secretary General António Guterres.

This is the first time that Blackhall Place has been lit up, following other notable buildings in Dublin such as Trinity College, the Bank of Ireland on College Green, and Liberty Hall.

Empowerment

#PurpleLightUp is a global movement designed to draw attention to the economic empowerment of disabled people.

Chair of the Disability Federation of Ireland, solicitor Gary Lee, has recently been elected to the Council of the Law Society.

Beloved Blackhall

Law Society Director General Ken Murphy said “I was delighted to be approached by our new Law Society Council member, Gary Lee, with this very appropriate ‘purple proposal’. My agreement that we should participate was instantaneous.

“My Law Society colleagues and I were proud last night to see our beloved Blackhall Place building flooded in purple light to salute the 641,131 people in Ireland who live with a disability.”
