Young professionals raise €1,400 with charity quiz

The Younger Members Committee of the DSBA, together with the Young Professionals of the Chartered Accountants and the Legal and Finance Network, held a successful charity table quiz recently.

The funds raised went to the Emer Casey Foundation. The quiz on 21 November was sponsored by Brightwater Recruitment and took place in Mulligan & Haines, in Dublin’s Dame Street.

The 160 participants formed 29 teams of both junior solicitors and accountants.

Comedian Christina McMahon was the quizmaster and put questions to creatively-named teams such as ‘Quiz-Close Trust’, ‘Quiz Pendens’, ‘Ignorant Until Proven Guilty’ and ‘Trivial Recruit’.

In total over €1,400 was raised for the foundation, which was established to fund the detection, prevention and cure of ovarian cancer. It was set up in 2006 following the death of Emer Casey, a young solicitor from Cork who was working with Matheson at the time of her diagnosis.

Prof Noreen Gleeson, gynaecologist at St James’s Hospital, spoke about how the foundation has worked closely with the hospital in recent years, and how its funding of scanning and laparoscopic equipment has resulted in better patient experiences.

Recently, the foundation supported a part-time physiotherapist at the hospital to support patients pre- and post-surgery, and those dealing with the long-term effects of cancer and its treatment.
