Harris rushes medicinal cannabis in from Holland

Health minister Simon Harris has announced special measures to import medicinal cannabis during the COVID-19 restrictions.

The move is designed to assist patients who avail of a ministerial licence for medicinal cannabis.

Speaking this morning, Minister Harris said: "I am aware that the limited number of patients who avail of a ministerial licence for medicinal cannabis products issued under section 14 of the Misuse of Drugs Acts have been encountering difficulties with access owing to travel restrictions and people’s need to self-isolate.”

Emergency supply

In response, the minister has arranged to have an emergency supply collected from the Netherlands, and delivered to the patients in Ireland.

Patients and their clinicians are now being contacted by the Department to put arrangements in place.
