State Claims Agency urged to resolve outstanding costs

The State Claims Agency (SCA) has been urged to quickly resolve legal costs matters in light of the cash-flow challenges facing solicitors and their clients.

The SCA’s legal costs unit is one of the only units still physically present in the office to enable faster resolution of costs matters.

The SCA has told Law Society President Michele O’Boyle that it "is very alert to the difficulties faced by practitioners and is processing bills as quickly as possible to minimise cash-flow difficulties for practices".

Insulate

President Michele O’Boyle saysit is impossible to entirely insulate the profession from the economic impact of COVID-19.

However, working creatively and collaboratively to keep the process of justice moving, where possible, can mitigate the impact.

The President says she has been engaging constructively with Government, the Courts Service, and other bodies to achieve that.
