€1 billion paid out in subsidy scheme

Revenue says the amount of money paid out under the Temporary Wage Subsidy Scheme (TWSS) has topped €1 billion.

In its latest figures, the tax body says 473,500 employees have received at least one payment under the scheme, up just over 9,000 compared with a week ago.

48,300 employers have received TWSS payments, up 1,000 from last week. 55,500 employers have registered for the scheme.

The subsidy is available to employers who keep workers on their books throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and is aimed at ensuring that employers retain links with their employees in the event that business picks up after the crisis.
