Judge Patrick Durcan retires from District Court

Judge Patrick Durcan is to retire from the District Court tomorrow (15 May).

Mr Justice Durcan was born in Westport, County Mayo in 1951, and was educated at University College Dublin.

Mr Justice Durkan worked as a solicitor from 1973 and was a member of Mayo County Council from 1979 to 2004.

He served as a Fine Gael senator from 1982 to 1987, after nomination by then Taoiseach Garret FitzGerald.

He was appointed to the bench in November 2011.
