Full 8.6% increase in food production
Production in manufacturing industries increased by 4.2% in the three months from April to June 2022, compared with the previous three-month period, new CSO data shows.
However, on an annual basis, industrial production was 4.9% less than in the corresponding period of 2021.
From April to June, production in the traditional sector was 14.6% greater than in the corresponding period of 2021, when many industries were impacted by COVID-19 related restrictions.
Over the same period, production in the modern sector, which comprises chemical, pharmaceutical, computer, electronic, medical, and dental, declined by 7.1%
Food production increased by 8.6% in the three months from April to June, compared to the previous three-month period.
Turnover
Turnover in manufacturing Industries was 9.4% higher in the three months from April to June than in the preceding three months.
Statistician Eamonn Cleary said "On an annual basis, industrial production was 4.9% lower in the three-month period from April to June 2022 than had been the case in the corresponding period of 2021.
“However, it is important to note that this annual decrease in production was not uniform across the industrial sub-indices. For instance, the modern sector experienced a 7.1% decrease in production in this period, compared to the traditional sector which saw an increase of 14.6%.”
