PC renewals for 2023 are online only

The Law Society has reminded practitioners that they must apply online, through the Society’s website, for a practising certificate (PC) for 2023.

This requirement is in line with the Society’s digital-first policy, and includes applications for PCs, qualifying certificates, memberships, and applications by solicitors in the full-time service of the State.

Solicitors seeking to make an application for a certificate of good standing, or a certificate of attestation, can contact pc@lawsociety.ie for details of how to apply for these certificates.

Payment methods are limited to debit or credit cards, or electronic funds transfer (EFT). The Law Society is not accepting cheques, postal orders, cash, or bank drafts.

Statutory deadline

In order to have a practising certificate bearing the date of 1 January 2023, solicitors must submit a fully completed application, with full payment of fees, to the Society on or before 1 February 2023.

Any applications received after this date will bear the date when the fully completed application and fees are received by the Society.

The Society points out that 1 February 2023 is a statutory deadline, and that it does not have any discretion to backdate an application received after the deadline.

Solicitors can contact a member of the team on pc@lawsociety.ie or visit the website for additional guidance and resources.
