Carolyn Bracken and Hazel Doupe
Debut feature from director and writer Kate Dolan
A new Irish horror thriller from the makers of Sea Fever and Vivarium will open in cinemas across Ireland on 4 March.
The debut feature from director Kate Dolan, You Are Not My Mother is a highly-anticipated psychological thriller rooted in eerie Irish folklore.
It stars Carolyn Bracken (Dublin Murders), Paul Reid (Vikings, Ritual), Ingrid Craigie (Blood, Seven Days in Entebbe), Jordanne Jones (Metal Heart, I Used To Live Here) and last year’s VMDIFF Aer Lingus Discovery Award winner Hazel Doupe (Float Like a Butterfly, Calm with Horses).
Abandoned car
Char’s mother, Angela (Bracken), has inexplicably disappeared. All that remains is her abandoned car.
When she returns home without explanation the following evening, it becomes clear to Char (Doupe) and her grandmother, Rita (Craigie), that something is amiss. She might look and sound the same but Angela’s behaviour has become increasingly frightening, as if she has been replaced by a malevolent force.
As Halloween night looms, a night steeped in ancient myth and legend, Char realizes that she is the only one who can save her, even if it means potentially losing her forever.
Surreal
Speaking about the film’s Irish theatrical release writer and director Kate Dolan said: “It is surreal to know your debut feature film will be seen in cinemas, particularly after the past two years of uncertainty.
“The film was made possible by a team of brilliant cast and crew and I can't wait to share it with everyone and I am so excited to work with Wildcard on the next leg of the film's journey.”
The film debuted at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) to great acclaim and is set to screen at the Göteborg Film Festival in Sweden, the Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival (VMDIFF) and at FrightFest in Glasgow over the next couple of months.
