Global giant Squire Patton Boggs to open in Dublin

Global law firm Squire Patton Boggs is to open an office in Dublin next May.

This will be its 15th location in Europe and 40th worldwide. The firm is ranked 13 terms of number of countries occupied, according to Law.com's 'Global 200' report.

Founded in the United States over 130 years ago, the firm employs over 1,500 lawyers on four continents, with over 650 in the US. It has over 400 lawyers across four British offices.

Partner Dennis Agnew, who leads the transactions team for Ireland at Pinsent Masons, will join Squire Patton Boggs to launch the new office, which is expected to open on 1 May 2023.

"Launching in Ireland, one of the world's fastest-growing economies, is another important milestone in our global expansion, and reaffirms our commitment to providing clients with premium counsel wherever they do business," said Squire Patton Boggs chair and global chief executive Mark Ruehlmann.

Post-Brexit world

Global managing partner Steve Mahon said: "In a post-Brexit world, Ireland continues to emerge as an important center for business activity, spanning several key areas of our global practice, including private equity, tech and life sciences.

"Our Dublin office will open up new opportunities for our firm and benefit clients who are already doing business and planning investments in Ireland."

"The growth we have experienced across our pan-European funds and corporate practices, coupled with the inbound investment opportunities from our extensive US practice make this a logical step for us," said private-equity practice head Paul Mann.

Dennis Agnew will serve as managing partner at the Dublin office and lead the firm's efforts to recruit additional talent. He advises international and Irish companies on cross-border mergers and acquisitions across a variety of sectors.

Agnew said: "Squire's extensive international practice, particularly across the US, and its tightknit culture, present a great opportunity to turn a fully integrated, cross-jurisdictional Irish practice into a global firm."
