Death of former coroner Terence Casey

The death has taken place of Terence Casey, who was coroner for South Kerry until his retirement in 2017. He had previously practised as a solicitor before being appointed deputy coroner in 1994.

As a coroner, he regularly sought more resources for measures aimed at preventing suicide among young people, which he once described as a “plague”.

Terence is survived by his wife Geraldine, and children Niamh and Terry.

His remains will repose at O’Shea’s Funeral Home, Killarney, on Thursday evening from 4.30pm to 6.30pm. The funeral will arrive at St Mary’s Cathedral on Friday, 11 August, at 10am for Requiem Mass at 10.30am.

The Mass will be live streamed on www.churchservices.tv/killarneycathedral, with the burial taking place afterwards in Aghadoe Lawn Cemetery.
