Law Society helps TY students learn about the law
The Law Society’s Diploma Centre recently welcomed transition-year (TY) students from across Ireland for its Solicitors of the Future programme.
Offered annually as part of the Society’s commitment to public legal education, the programme is designed to give students the opportunity to learn about the law, and the route to becoming a solicitor, in a fun and collaborative way.
The programme, which provided a solid grounding in a range of legal areas, took place online over the spring mid-term break.
It was organised by Diploma Centre course executive Suzanne Crilly (solicitor), and supported by a range of legal experts.
Certificate of completion
Over four days, students tuned in to learn about legal topics such as human rights, criminal and civil law, and the daily work of a solicitor. They also participated in client-interviewing workshops, a mini-mock court, and interactive sessions.
Throughout the week, students heard from solicitors and barristers, while a number trainee solicitors also joined as facilitators on the online sessions.
The programme concluded with an online ceremony, hosted by chair of the Law Society Education Committee, Richard Hammond SC, during which the students received a certificate of completion for their participation.
