Update for solicitors to be held in Leitrim

Solicitors in the north-west will have the opportunity to update their knowledge in areas of law relevant to general practice at an in-person event on Thursday 25 May.

The Leitrim 2023 Essential Solicitor Update is organised by Law Society Skillnet, in association with Leitrim Bar Association, Longford Bar Association, Roscommon Bar Association and Sligo Bar Association.

This year’s event takes place at the Landmark Hotel, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Leitrim, and runs from 10am to 5.30pm. Attendance offers six CPD hours.

The aim is to offer practitioners an opportunity to update their knowledge in areas of law relevant to general practice, and to provide an update on these areas from experienced practitioners and expert speakers.

There will also be an opportunity to network with colleagues over lunch and an evening drinks reception.

Topics and speakers

The topics to be covered include:

  • Probate 2023 – including how to succeed with the Probate Office, and DSP claims,
  • An update on family law – including pension-adjustment orders,
  • A practical guide to assisted decision-making,
  • Recent developments in drug and drink driving,
  • Licensing 2023 – including online applications, pubs, bingo, and lottery licences,
  • Your practice: planning for the future – including retirement, selling, buying, merging, insurance run-off and pensions,
  • Capital Gains Tax and non-resident vendors, and
  • Solicitors’ Guide to Professional Conduct.
