Mark O’Connell nominated for District Court

The Government has nominated barrister Mark O’Connell for appointment as a judge of the District Court.

The decision to formally advise the President to make the appointment was made by the Government earlier this week.

Arrangements will be made for the appointment and swearing in of the new judge to the District Court in due course.

Mark O’Connell will fill the vacancy that arises from the retirement of Judge Olann Kelleher last month.

In addition, during its meeting on 7 November, the Government has decided to assign Judge Joanne Carroll to District 19 (Cork City) with immediate effect.
