Update on developments in business law

Law Society Professional Training is holding its annual conference on business law in Blackhall Place later this month.

The in-person event, being held in collaboration with the Law Society’s Business Law Committee, takes place on Wednesday 15 November (2pm-5.30pm).

The conference will involve three interactive panel of experts who will aim to provide a practical overview of recent practice, legislative and case-law developments.

The event is worth 2.5 general CPD hours and one regulatory hour (by group study).

Topics and speakers

Panel discussions will focus on:

  • Anti-money laundering: recent developments and professional insights in relation to certifying beneficial ownership,
  • Competition: an update on new Irish competition-law legislation and on new rules requiring pre-clearance of certain transactions involving non-EU buyers,
  • Case study – ‘Anatomy of a Deal’: some key things to think about when buying or selling a private company.

Máire Cunningham (chair, Business Law Committee) will chair the conference. A partner in the corporate and commercial team in Beauchamps LLP, she acts for both investors and investees across all sectors, and has extensive experience in all areas of corporate law.

  • Philip Andrews SC (competition and corporate-enforcement practitioner),
  • Úna Butler (member of the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission),
  • Niamh Counihan (Director of Legal and Regulatory Affairs, Matheson),

  • Gavin O’Flaherty (corporate partner, Eversheds Sutherland Ireland),
  • Fiona O’Connell (partner, O’Flynn Exhams LLP),
  • Paul White (corporate and M&A partner, A&L Goodbody),
  • Paul Egan SC (chair, Company Law Review Group).
