North board role for former LAB chief

The former chief executive of the Legal Aid Board has been appointed to the management board of the Legal Services Agency Northern Ireland.

Solicitor John McDaid is one of a number of new board members for the North’s Department of Justice and other agencies named yesterday (15 August).

McDaid was chief executive of the Legal Aid Board from 2014 to 2023. He is currently a board member of Oberstown Campus Detention Centre and Ballymun Community Law Centre.

Belfast solicitor

Belfast solicitor Paul Mageean will also join the board of the agency, which administers publicly funded legal services in the North.

Mageean, who is currently the Northern Ireland’s Chief Parole Commissioner, is also a member of the Policing Authority.

All new board members took up their appointments on 1 August 2024 for a three-year term until 31 July 2027.
