Seminar aims to help solicitors with probate

Law Society Professional Training will hold a guide to probate practice next month, aimed at helping solicitors to make successful applications to the Probate Office.

The in-person event will take place at the Education Centre in Blackhall Place on Tuesday 24 September (11am to 3pm).

The seminar is worth three general CPD hours by group study.

The event will help participants to gain the knowledge they need to make successful applications and avoid common pitfalls and mistakes. It includes advice and updates from Revenue and the Probate Office.

It is suitable for solicitors, legal executives, paralegals, and all staff in a law firm who are involved in making applications to the Probate Office.

Topics and speakers

Topics include:

  • The Statement of Affairs (Probate) Form SA 2,
  • Applications to the Probate Office (overview of essential documents),
  • Drafting probate titles,
  • Supporting documents and the oath for executors/administrators,
  • Most common reasons for rejection, and
    - Advice and guidance from the Probate Office and Revenue.

The event will be chaired by Padraic Courtney (secretary to the Law Society Probate, Administration and Trusts Committee), who will also be one of the speakers.

The other speakers are:

  • Mark Bradshaw (Revenue),
  • Anne Heenan (Probate Officer), and
  • Anne Stephenson (principal at Stephenson Burns, lecturer, and author).
