Seminar to provide updates on criminal law

Law Society Professional Training is to hold a seminar next month to update practitioners on criminal law.

The in-person event will take place in Blackhall Place on Wednesday 25 September (2pm to 5pm).

It is worth a total of three CPD hours – two general (by group study) and one client care and professional standards.

The seminar’s aim is to provide practitioners with an overview of recent and ongoing developments in criminal-law practice from a practical perspective.

The update has been designed in collaboration with the Criminal Law Committee of the Law Society.

Topics and speakers

The topics and Issues to be covered are:

  • Sentencing – juvenile sentencing and guidelines,
  • Parole Board,
  • Anti-money-laundering update,
  • Panel discussion: intermediaries.

Fergus Mullan (chair of the Criminal Law Committee and State Solicitor) will chair the seminar.

The speakers are:

  • Thomas O’Malley SC (Senior Lecturer, University of Galway),
  • Mr Justice Michael White,
  • Martin Lawlor (Coghlan Kelly Solicitors),
  • Dr Alan Cusack (Associate Professor, Director of Policing Studies, School of Law, University of Limerick).
