Writing workshop aimed at legal profession

Law Society Skillnet is to hold a workshop on business writing designed for administrative and support staff in the legal profession.

The three-hour, in-person event is a practical, interactive workshop designed for people who want to feel confident in their written application of the English language.

It takes place on Monday 16 September at the Law Society of Ireland.

The workshop is worth three CPD hours for professional development and solicitor wellbeing.

It covers a broad spectrum of business writing – including emails, letters, and structured documents.

Questionnaire

Participants will complete a pre-workshop questionnaire to tailor the workshop to specific needs and increase understanding of their writing style.

The topics covered include:

  • Writing for your audience: the rules of writing,
  • A structured framework to design and complete your work,
  • How to research, analyse, and present information,
  • Practising formatting letters, reports, proposals, and emails,
  • Understanding the roles of a proofreader and an editor,
  • Practical tips to keep sentences short, avoiding wordiness and jargon,
  • Identifying and correcting common grammar and punctuation errors, and
  • Increase confidence with communications that are professional and persuasive.

The trainer is Ann Greene, who facilitates business and professional-development workshops for global companies, small and medium-sized enterprises, and the public and private sectors.
