Webinar to examine holiday-injury scenario

A webinar to be held next month will examine how a personal-injury case arising from a holiday would be resolved in five different jurisdictions.

A factual scenario will be presented at the beginning of the event, related to a tourist or holiday personal-injury accident abroad.

The same practical case will then be resolved from the point of view of five jurisdictions (Spain, France, Italy, Greece, and Ireland).

Legal Abroad

The Law Society Skillnet event is aimed at giving participants an understanding of how different European legal systems would resolve the same personal-injury case.

The webinar will take place on Tuesday 5 March (1pm to 2.30pm), and is worth 1.5 CPD hours, by e-learning.

The speakers (pictured) are part of Legal Abroad, an alliance of four European law firms specialising in plaintiff cross-border litigation. Their activity and jurisdiction cover the main tourist destinations in several EU countries.

The topics to be discussed in the scenario are:

  • Practical issues, such as the value of the case,
  • Heads of compensation in each country,
  • Limitation periods to claim (penalty) interests,Types of liability,
  • (Direct) action against the insurance, and
  • Fees.
