AI, GDPR and privacy crux topic of seminar

An event at the Presidents’ Hall in the Law Society on 9 October will examine the challenges facing the technology industry with regard to AI and GDPR issues.

Running from 5om to 7.30pm, the seminar will give legal and tech professionals insights into the law of privacy, which is of enormous importance for citizens and businesses in Ireland.

Role

Ireland holds a unique role in the EU in this regard, and the conference is designed to expose lawyers and businesses operating in Ireland to expert thinking on the complex challenges ahead.

The event will discuss the pool of legal expertise in privacy in Ireland and the impact on privacy concerns of the inevitable development of AI.

Topics include

  • Introduction to AI and GDPR,
  • Regulatory challenges for national regulator in the EU context,
  • Risk and (self)-regulation: industry perspective,
  • AI and data protection in the EU: risk, regulation and reform.

  • Sir Geoffrey Vos (Master of the Rolls and European Law Institute VP),
  • Jeremy Godfrey (chair of Comisiún na Meán),
  • Emma Redmond (assistant general gounsel for privacy and data protection, Open AI), and
  • Barry MacCarthy (Law Society President).

This is an in-person event and the cost is €215.
