Law Society hosting IBA ethics conference

The International Bar Association (IBA) is to hold a conference on professional ethics at the Law Society this week (26-28 June).

The event, presented by the IBA Professional Ethics Committee, will include discussions on topics such as artificial intelligence (AI), litigation, and whether law firms should apply any ethical considerations when selecting clients.

Geraldine Clarke SC (Gleeson McGrath Baldwin), a past-president of the Law Society, is one of the co-chairs of the conference.

President of the Law Society Barry MacCarthy will deliver a welcome address to attendees on Thursday morning (9am), followed by a keynote address from Chief Justice Donal O’Donnell.

Younger Members Committee

Ahead of the event in Blackhall Place, the IBA Young Lawyers' Committee is presenting a panel discussion to be held at the office of William Fry in Dublin on Wednesday 26 June.

The event is taking place in conjunction with the Law Society’s Younger Members Committee, the Society of Young Solicitors Ireland (SYSI), and the Dublin Solicitors Bar Association (DSBA) Younger Members' Committee.

The discussion, entitled 'From NQ [newly qualified] to partner: how to navigate and stay well on the journey', is aimed at young lawyers who are navigating the early stages of their careers and seeking to grow their personal network while maintaining a harmonious work-life balance.

The panel, moderated by Antoinette Moriarty (head of Law Society Psychological Services), includes Fiona McNulty of Mason Hayes & Curran LLP, a former chair of the Law Society’s Younger Members Committee.
