(L to R): John Gaffney and Shaun O'Shea
EU-law expert joins Beauchamps as partner
Law firm Beauchamps has appointed John Gaffney as a partner in its EU and competition practice.
He will also head up Beauchamps’ team of advisers on sustainability and ESG (environmental, social, and governance).
Gaffney was previously a partner in the EU, competition and regulatory team of a leading Dublin law firm, where he represented a broad range of public and private clients on state aid, competition, merger-control matters, and public-procurement law.
He has been included in an EU list of candidates suitable for appointment as arbitrators under EU trade agreements.
UCC role
Gaffney serves as an adjunct professor at the School of Law at University College Cork, where he lectures on ESG law and international law.
The new Beauchamps partner has published widely on issues of EU and international law, with an emphasis on the interaction of EU law and disputes about foreign direct investment.
Shaun O'Shea (head of Beauchamps corporate, commercial and M&A) described the appointment as “a significant milestone” in the firm's continued growth and expansion.
He added that Gaffney brought “a wealth of knowledge” as a leading expert in EU and competition law.
“We are also delighted to add a recognised thought leader on ESG matters to our team,” O’Shea concluded.
Beauchamps' team now has 40 partners in its Dublin headquarters.
