British imports down 34% to 19% over 25 years

Ireland exported more than €196 billion worth of goods in 2023 and imported €140 billion, CSO trade data shows.

Chemicals and related products accounted for two-thirds of total exports and the EU27 is Ireland's largest trading partner for exports, worth €81 billion.

One-fifth from Asia

There were over €26 billion worth of imports from Britain, while one-fifth of our imports in 2023 were from Asia.

Ireland exported €54 billion to the US in 2023 and imported €23 billion.

Statistician Ciarán Counihan said that Ireland’s biggest import partner in 2023 was Britain, but that country’s share of Ireland’s total imports had fallen from 34% to 19% over the past 25 years.

There were €22 billion worth of exports to Asia.  Ireland imported €5.7 billion more from Asia than we exported in 2023.

Ireland exported €1.8 billion of goods to Africa in 2023 and imported €1 billion. There was €868 million exported to South America and almost €1 billion to Oceania in 2023, Counihan said.
