Law Society team takes mediation prize

A team of trainees from the Law Society of Ireland won the Michael Peart Cross Border Mediation Competition held in Blackhall Place on 7 November.

The cross-border competition is a collaboration between the Law Society and the North’s Institute of Professional Legal Studies (IPLS).

Nine teams of four trainees each participated in two mediation rounds.

The contest promotes the value of resolving disputes through mediation, and is designed to help trainees from both institutions to develop their mediation skills in tandem with receiving feedback from expert practitioners.

The winning team consisted of:

  • Katie Ward (Matheson),
  • Niamh Donnelly (Eversheds Sutherlands),
  • Caoimhe Daunt (Arthur Cox), and
  • Alexander Dunne (Mason Hayes & Curran).

The second-placed team, from the Institute of Professional Legal Studies, was:

  • Mia Wheatly,
  • Lucy Bisset,
  • Michael Murphy, and
  • Niall O Hare.
