New president for Law Society of Northern Ireland

Colin Mitchell is the new president of the Law Society of Northern Ireland.

Mitchell said that he was taking up the post at a time of “great change” affecting the organisation’s members.

“As a practising solicitor, I am all too aware of the pressures our members now face as they attempt to navigate through an ever-changing legal and economic landscape,” Mitchell stated.

Diversity

“One of my priorities will be to ensure that the society is responsive to the needs of our members and committed to supporting them as best we can,” he added.

The new president also said that the organisation had to continue the work of building “a more inclusive, open, and diverse” solicitors’ profession

He will be supported by Darren Toombs (senior vice-president), Mark Borland (junior vice-president), and David Lavery (chief executive).
