Workshop on client skills for lawyers

Law Society Skillnet is holding an afternoon workshop on client skills for lawyers next month.

The event, which is worth three CPD hours for professional development and solicitor wellbeing, will take place in Blackhall Place on Thursday 5 December (2pm to 5pm).

Registration is now open, but the number of participants is limited to 20.

The course aims to provide lawyers with insights into building client relationships with external and internal clients. It is aimed at lawyers selling the services of their firm externally, or those providing internal services as in-house lawyers.

The workshop is divided into five sessions:

  1. Building your network,
  2. Listening to internal and external clients,
  3. Describing your solutions in ‘feature’ language, but also ‘benefit’ language,
  4. Presenting yourself and your services, whether you are a lawyer in a larger or smaller law firm, or an in-house lawyer, and
  5. Providing good external or internal client service.

Trainer

The trainer is Henry Hely Hutchinson, who delivers courses on negotiation skills, interpersonal skills, and management skills for lawyers, bankers, and professionals worldwide.

He has a first-class degree in Modern Languages from Trinity College Dublin and an MBA from Henley Management College.

He started his career at the Commerzbank in Frankfurt and has worked at DC Gardner Training and Euromoney Institutional Investor PLC for 25 years.
