Board members for gambling watchdog sought

A competition to appoint seven board members of the new gambling watchdog has opened.

Údarás Rialála Cearrbhachais na hÉireann or the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI) is a new statutory body that will be responsible for the licensing and regulation of gambling in Ireland.

The process can start after President Higgins recently signed the Gambling Regulation Act 2024 that sets out the legislative basis for the GRAI.

Closing date

Those interested can apply for the roles – a chair and six ordinary members of the authority – through www.publicjobs.ie.

The closing date for applications is Friday November 15 (3pm).

Urging candidates to come forward, Minister of State at the Department of Justice James Browne described the establishment of the GRAI as “an important development in ensuring a well-regulated gambling sector, while protecting the public from gambling harms”.

Anne Marie Caulfield had already been appointed as chief executive designate of the new watchdog.
