IHREC webinar to examine redress delay

The Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission (IHREC) is hosting a webinar on the implications of the O’Keeffe judgment.

Running from 4.30pm to 6pm on Thursday 7 November, the webinar is entitled ‘The implications of the O’Keeffe v. Ireland judgment on the right of redress for survivors of child sexual abuse in day schools prior to 1991/1992.'

Passage of time

IHREC states that many survivors of historic child sexual abuse in schools have not yet received redress from the State, despite the passage of more than ten years since Louise O’Keeffe’s landmark win in the European Court of Human Rights.

The body says that it continues to push for the immediate rollout of a fair, non-discriminatory and accessible State redress scheme that fully implements the judgment.

Survivors continue to come forward, seeking information on their legal options, including their right to redress, most recently following the publication of the ‘Report of the Scoping Inquiry into Historical Sexual Abuse in Schools Run by Religious Orders.

RSVP by 4 November to rsvp@ihrec.ie

One CPD point will be available for attendance.

Speakers include:

  • Professor Conor O’Mahony (Child Law Clinic, University College Cork),
  • Colin Smith SC, and
  • Áine Bhreathnach (IHREC senior solicitor).
