Lawyers sought for AML appeals body

Practising solicitors and barristers are being invited to apply for one of three positions on a body to be set up under anti-money-laundering legislation.

The Department of Justice has issued a call for applications for three positions – one as chair, two as ordinary members – on the Trust or Company Service Provider (TCSP) Appeal Tribunal.

The tribunal is to be established under the Criminal Justice (Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing) (Amendment) Act 2021.

Under the legislation, the Department of Justice’s Anti-Money Laundering Compliance Unit (AMLCU) will monitor any designated persons known or suspected of having been engaged in, or currently engaging in, money-laundering or terrorist-financing.

Ten years' experience

The tribunal will hear and determine appeals that are made by any person affected by a decision made by the AMLCU.

Eligible applicants can apply for either or both positions of chair and ordinary member.

Applicants must be a practising barrister or solicitor, and remain such for the period of appointment, and have at least ten years’ experience in practice post-graduation at the time of application.

Expressions of interest should be submitted by email to TCSPAppeals@justice.ie by 5pm on Friday 25 October.
