Learn to apply European human-rights standards

Irish solictors have the opportunity this autumn to learn how to effectively apply the European human-rights standards at national level.

An online tutured course, with an in-person launching module, will begin at Blackhall Place on 14 October, and last for two months.

Designed by the Council of Europe, the course is open to legal professionals from Ireland and is organised under the EU-CoE HELP EU III project.

Organisers say participation contributes to the goal set by the EU judicial training strategy on training of lawyers in EU law.

Scope

The training will hone in on fundamental-rights issues within the scope of both the ECHR and EU Charter, focusing on the interplay between the two systems.

The topics are explored in a practical way, enabling applicants to apply the gained knowledge and skills.

The course consists of an introductory module and four substantive modules.

Free of charge, and with flexible hours, successful participants will receive certification from both by the Law Society of Ireland and the Council of Europe.
