CCPC wants feedback on accessibility guide

The consumer-protection watchdog has opened a public consultation on draft guidelines for small businesses on their accessibility obligations.

The guidelines were developed by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) to prepare for an EU law that comes into effect in Ireland on 28 June this year.

The goal of the European Accessibility Act (EAA) is to increase the accessibility of a range of products and services across the EU, with benefits for consumers and businesses.

CCPC to enforce compliance

Under the EAA, the CCPC will be responsible for enforcing compliance with accessibility requirements for digital products, e-commerce services, and e-books.

It worked with the National Disability Authority to develop the guidelines, on which it is now inviting feedback.

The watchdog says that the consultation is open to businesses, industry bodies, disabled persons’ organisations, and consumers.

A consultation form is available on the CCPC website, and the closing date for submissions is 25 April.
