The competition watchdog has opened a consultation process on draft rules for the conduct of proceedings by adjudication officers.
The Competition (Amendment) Act 2022, which gave the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) new powers, set up a new system of administrative enforcement.
Under this system, a new CCPC panel of independent adjudication officers can make decisions on alleged breaches of EU and Irish competition law.
Subject to court approval, these officers can impose non-criminal financial sanctions where they find breaches of competition law.
The consultation being opened by the CCPC covers draft rules for oral hearings in such proceedings, as well as draft guidelines on their conduct.
Submissions can be made until 12 January 2026.
