Creeslough families to challenge site approval

Families affected by an explosion in Creeslough, Co Donegal that killed ten people in 2022 are to challenge a decision to grant planning permission for a new development on the site.

The news comes after Donegal County Council approved plans for a new service station on the site.

Phoenix Law, which acts for some of the families, has confirmed their intention to challenge the decision.

Partner Darragh Mackin said: “It is difficult to comprehend a more insensitive and morally bankrupt decision in recent times.”

‘Unrelenting pleas’

He said that, despite “fierce and unrelenting pleas” from the families directly affected, the council had placed commercial and business interests above the interests and rights of the families.

“Our clients have today signalled their intention to challenge every aspect of this planning decision in an effort to vindicate their rights, and the rights of their loved ones.

“It is unfathomable that the Grenfell tower or the Stardust nightclub would be rebuilt,” Mackin added.

He also questioned why the decision had appeared in the local media in Donegal before it was notified to the families.
