Central Bank licence for HR software firm

The Central Bank has granted a subsidiary of HR software firm Rippling an electronic money institution (EMI) licence.

Law firm Matheson, which supported Rippling Payments Ireland Limited in securing the approval, says that this is the first such licence to be issued this year.

Matheson described the authorisation as “a critical milestone” for Rippling’s expansion plans, as it would allow the company to offer its payroll products into Ireland, and on a cross-border basis into key EU markets, for the first time.

Workforce systems

US-based Rippling, which was set up in 2016, established an EU office in Ireland in 2023.

The company says that its platform brings together all the workforce systems that are normally scattered across a company, such as payroll, expenses, benefits, and computers.

Ian O'Mara (partner in financial institutions, Matheson) described the development as the culmination of “a long and detailed process”.
