Food prices up 1.4% over 12 months

The EU Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) for Ireland is estimated to have increased by 1.5% in the 12 months to January 2025 and decreased by 0.9% since December 2024.

The CSO said this morning (31 January) that this compared with HICP inflation of 1.0% in Ireland in the 12 months to December 2024 and an annual growth of 2.4% in the HICP for the euro zone in the same period.

Energy prices are estimated to have grown by 1.2% this month and decreased by 2.7% over the 12 months to January 2025.

Food prices are estimated to have fallen by 0.7% in the last month and risen by 1.4% in the last 12 months.

The HICP, excluding energy and unprocessed food, is estimated to have increased by 2.0% since January 2024.

CSO statistician Anthony Dawson said that transport costs have dropped by 1.9% in the month and increased by 4.4% in the 12 months to January 2025.
