Info sessions for dealing with US-injured clients

A series of information talks for lawyers representing clients injured in the US is upcoming. 

The free lunchtime seminars will take place at six venues around the country from late January to early March. 

The events will be presented by solicitor Liam Moloney of Naas-based Moloney & Company and US attorney Martin Blake.

Blake, a former president of the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association, is the current chair of the Internation Relations Committee of the American Association of Justice. 

Moloney, who specialises in international-travel claims, is the current vice-president of the Pan European Organisation for Personal Injury Lawyers (PEOPIL). 

Essential information

The seminars will provide essential information for solicitors who are consulted by clients who have been injured in the US.  

Topics will include:

  • Avoiding problems and understanding key issues,
  • Assessing viable claims – including financial considerations,
  • Unique problem areas – including government immunities,
  • Waivers, releases and assumption of the risk defences,
  • No fault and contributory negligence,
  • Economic, non-economic, and punitive damages,
  • Discovery,
  • Insurance bad faith,
  • State and federal jurisdiction,
  • Contingency fees, and
  • Finding a suitable attorney. 

All seminars begin at 1pm. The dates and venues are:

  • Wednesday 22 January, Radisson Hotel, Dublin 8,
  • Thursday 23 January, Hotel Kilkenny, Kilkenny
  • Thursday 20 February, Hardiman Hotel, Galway,
  • Friday 21 February, Glasshouse Hotel, Sligo,
  • Thursday 6 March, Imperial Hotel, Cork,
  • Friday 7 March,  Savoy Hotel, Limerick.
